Police say two people have died after five cars and two mopeds collided on the Bronx River Parkway, police say.
The accident happened at 12:58 a.m. near East Gun Hill Road and 233rd Street.
Police say a 21-year-old man operating a 2018 Mercedes sedan changed to the middle lane and rear-ended a Volkswagen GTI operated by a 21-year-old man.
The impact caused the Volkswagon to crash into a guardrail before coming to a stop, police say.
The Mercedes continued into the far-right lane, striking two males, 21 and 23, operating “fly wing” scooters in the same lane. Both scooter operators were ejected from their vehicles.
They were both taken to hospitals where they were pronounced dead. Their identifies is pending proper family notification.
A woman in one of the cars suffered injuries to her neck and back, according to police.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
It is illegal to ride a moped on any highway in New York State.
