A 21-year-old man is facing charges after a seven-vehicle crash on the Bronx River Parkway left two people dead.

A total of four vehicles collided on the Bronx River Parkway, police say. The crash happened at 12:58 a.m. near East Gun Hill Road and 233rd Street.

Police say Nyre Yuyes was operating a 2018 Mercedes sedan when he moved into the middle lane and rearended a Volkswagen GTI. This sent the GTI into the guard rail. Police say Yuyes' vehicle continued into the far-left lane, fatally striking two men on mopeds.

Officials have identified the victims as 23-year-old Enrique Martinez and 19-year-old Manuel Amarantepenalo. They say both men were riding separate mopeds when they were struck.

A woman in one of the cars suffered injuries to her neck and back, according to police.

It is illegal to ride a moped on any highway in New York state.

Drivers are expressing their concerns about speeding in the area.

"More than any place else, all the time," said Soundview resident Carlos. "And not only do they speed... they cut cars off."
