State police say troopers shot and killed a suspect on the Thruway who opened fire on them.
Police say troopers stopped a vehicle that had been identified in a possible homicide just before 3 p.m. on I-87. The suspect shot at the troopers before they returned fire, according to police.
One trooper sustained minor injuries and the other is unharmed, officials said.
Officials say two lanes are closed on the New York State Thruway in Hillburn between exits 15A and 14.
Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins: "Albany PD responded to a shooting on Hudson Avenue around 1:00 this afternoon. There they found a man who was shot in the head in what is believed to be a targeted attack. That victim is in critical condition. Police immediately began to track the shooting suspect's car on various cameras thoughout the city of Albany. At somepoint the driver went down I-87 southbound where an alert was issued. NYSP identified the vehicle in Ramapo and conducted the traffic stop."
