Two people had to jump from a second-story ledge to escape a devastating fire in Yonkers Thursday morning.
Fire crews arrived on the scene at 7 Rider Ave. around 6:20 a.m. to find heavy smoke and flames.
They say the people inside had to crawl out to the porch roof and jump to the front lawn. One of the two sprained an ankle and was brought to the hospital for treatment.
Firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames, but the house was destroyed. Fire officials told News 12 that the damage was so heavy that the house would be torn down today for safety reasons.
Officials believe the fire ignited on the first floor in the back of the home and raced through the walls.
Arson has been ruled out, but the cause remains undetermined.
