The city of Yonkers has a plan to rebuild the entire school district.
The school board is currently reviewing a spending plan for next year, but the city has a plan of its own to try and rebuild many of the schools within the district.
The four-phase project, called Rebuild Yonkers Schools, would take 13 years to complete and carries a price tag of about $2 billion.
Some schools have crumbling steps, rotting tiles, buckling walls and are overcrowded.
Due to the high price tag, Mayor Mike Spano needs Albany to be a partner and provide funding like it did in Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo.
"We need to head in a new direction. We need an aggressive change," says Spano.
