Seven months after a little girl was found dead in an Ossining apartment, her baby sitters appeared before a judge today to face child endangerment charges.

The indictments naming Maria Villa Loja and her husband, Jose Lalvey Chacha, were unsealed today. Both are charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

One of the counts involves 5-month-old Monica Yunga, who was found dead in the couple's home in April.

While the cause of death hasn't been determined, it's believed the child got tangled in a blanket and suffocated.

Police reports state that there was a total of seven children in the baby sitters' apartment, which was an illegal day care center operated by Loja. All of the children, including the girl who died, were in one bed.

Bail for both Loja and Chacha was set at $2,500. They are due back in court Dec. 22.

In addition to setting bail, Judge John Colangelo issued an order of protection barring any contact with either the families or the children being cared for by Loja in the apartment.
