The unearthing of a 50-year-old time capsule at a community center on Waterstone Road.in Greenwood Lake Sunday drew large crowds filled with anticipation of what the contents may reveal.
Among the contents discovered were old newspaper clippings from 1974, police salary ledgers and pieces of popular technology at the time, including a 35 mm slide canister and a cassette audio tape.
The reveal was among a series of weekend community events organized by the Greenwood Lake Centennial Committee.
“There was quite a crowd assembled who watched with bated breath as the event unfolded, some anticipating references from ancestors,” says committee member Peter Lyons Hall.
Halls says some of the contents were damaged by water despite being wrapped in plastic.
Plans for the next time capsule are already in place. Organizers say it will be housed in the “dry basement” of the Greenwood Lake Library to avoid damage to any of the items inside.
