A 17-year-old Poughkeepsie girl is in critical condition after police say a man named Sebastian Morataya-Mendez assaulted her Sunday.

The city of Poughkeepsie PBA posted on their Facebook page that they received a call about a possible disturbance and that a woman was injured and on the floor of a home.

When officers arrived, they found the victim unconscious with severe injuries to her head. She was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Morataya-Mendez, 25, of Poughkeepsie, was identified as a suspect and taken into police custody. He's being charged with attempted murder.
