Jersey Mike’s, one of the largest sandwich chains in the country founded 65 years ago in Point Pleasant Beach, will donate 100% of Wednesday's sales to local charities, such as Make-A-Wish New Jersey.
It's all part of Jersey Mike's 11th annual nationwide Day of Giving. The chain aimed to raise more than $8 million for local charities nationwide.
Back in 2011 when Day of Giving started, there were just under 500 stores. Now, there are 2,000 from coast to coast.
“When I think about our first one to today, it's something that we look forward to so much and something that we really cherish with the company because we really think it defines who our franchisees are as human beings and really how they have that local connection to their community,” says Senior Vice President Caroline Jones.
More than $32 million has been raised since 2011, money to help charities like Make-A-Wish, who sent brain cancer survivor Anthony Aubain and his family to the Bahamas.
“They sent me to Atlantis,” says Aubain. “It was beautiful, and it was just ... I don't even have words. Jersey Mike's, they funded my trip. It was amazing.”
A year ago, Jersey Mike's had to cancel its day of giving last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Today, shops across the state are prepping for more than 1,000 subs to go out the doors.
