The Kansas City Zoo is opening up its gates for social distance viewings.
However, capacity is limited and petting and feeding exhibits, playgrounds, and boat and tram rides are closed.
In indoor areas, like the reptile and amphibians exhibit, decals on the floor are placed 10 to 20 feet apart so guests can safely get a good look at the animals.
The zoo's director says being closed for eight weeks has heavily impacted the zoo financially, and they are looking forward to opening the zoo back up and running. "Our phase one will be 1,000 max per day, and those are half hour increments where people can get their tickets online. After two weeks, we'll ramp up to 2,000 max per day, and those still are online tickets. We'll be doing that for the foreseeable future," says Executive Director Jeff Ettling.
Zoo employees are required to wear masks, but as for guests, the decision is up to them.
