Young Yonkers man stabbed to death trying to escape from attacker
The life of a Yonkers man was cut short Thursday after being stabbed multiple times in broad daylight.Police believe around 1:30 p.m. Thursday 21-year-old Karl Smith and another male were involved in a physical altercation outside Manny's Gocery on Jackson Street. Sources in the neighborhood say Smith tried to escape inside the store after being stabbed but the suspect followed him and struck again. Smith was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital shortly after 2 p.m. from multiple stab wounds to the torso.Friends say Smith was supposed to attend a General Educational Development (GED) class at the Educational Opportunity Center near Getty Square shortly before the stabbing occurred. They say he was turned away for being two minutes late. Family members say Smith had plans to join the Job Corps or the military to escape the violence in Yonkers.
