Young man drowns at Woodbury's Central Valley Pond
Police say a man in his 20s was enjoying a day at Central Valley Pond with his friends when he suddenly went under the water and didn?t come back up.
There were about 200 people at the pool Saturday and at least a dozen lifeguards on duty when friends of the victim notified lifeguards that they couldn't find their friend, police say. It happened around 4 p.m.
According to Woodbury Police Chief Robert Kwiatowski, the water was cleared and searched. Within three minutes, the victim was found and CPR was administered.
The victim was transported to Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen where he was later pronounced dead.
Many at the scene said they wondered how the young man could have gone under the water unnoticed.
Officials say the cause of the drowning is under investigation.
