A Hasidic customer looking for service Tuesday at Johnston's Toyota in New Hampton was turned down by a worker there in an incident caught on camera.
In the video, the worker tells the Jewish man, “You’re spreading the virus, you got to go.” After the video was shared online, many have said that the worker’s reaction was anti-Semitic.
A representative for the dealership told News 12 that the customer wanted an oil change, a service not currently being performed as per state guidelines. They said disciplinary action has been taken against the employee and issued this statement:
"The intent was to ensure the health and safety of the customer and dealership employees and in no way reflects our values or beliefs."
The employee is on a two-week unpaid leave and will undergo sensitivity training before returning to work.
Service centers are open in the state for essential repairs only.
