News 12 is told the lottery is open to anyone who meets income restrictions and can afford a down payment plus mortgage.
For two people, the household income cannot exceed $80,000. As for a three-person household, income cannot exceed $90,000. And for a family of four, income cannot exceed $100,000.
This is the first time in 15 years that the Yorktown Community Housing Board is selling a house. The group advocates for affordable housing in the community.
Officials are calling the property a perfect starter home or a home for those looking to downsize.
"It’s a big deal because there is a desperate need for affordable housing in Westchester and in Yorktown,” says Yorktown Community Housing Board president Ken Belfer. “It’s a fraction of what it would cost if it were a market-rate home.”
Applications for the lottery are due by Aug. 14. The winner will be chosen the following week.
