Yorktown police say there has been a recent spike in burglaries in the town.
Police say the most recent burglary happened on Ridge Street last week, the fourth in less than a month - an unusually high number for Yorktown.
"It's a little unsettling. I should probably be a lot more careful than I am," says Kathleen Scanlon, of Yorktown. "I'm probably a little too lax."
Daniel McMahon, chief of the Yorktown Police Department, says the spike in burglaries is not a crime spree, but it can be used as a reminder for local residents to take basic safety precautions in their home.
McMahon suggests residents place a piece of wood on the track of their sliding glass door to deter intruders. He also suggests installing an alarm system.
