A Yorktown man could face up to 30 years in prison for allegedly taking part in a brazen fraud scheme.
Dennis Dowd was arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing $8 million from Tarrytown's Hitachi America, a subsidiary of the Japanese-based electronics company.
Dowd was a senior manager of corporate benefits at Hitachi America for nearly 30 years. According to papers filed in federal court in Manhattan, Dowd siphoned off the $8 million from health insurance claims and reimbursements paid to Hitachi through a Wachovia bank branch in Tarrytown.
A date for Dowd's next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
