While kids in Yonkers were excited about the last day of school Tuesday, teachers were already thinking about next year as their contract comes to an end.

Negotiations for a new contract are underway as the current deal is set to expire at the end of July. On Monday, nearly 100 teachers met at Lincoln High School to discuss the district?s latest offer.

The new contract offer requires teachers to contribute to their health care coverage for the first time. However, the union claims that would cancel out any possible raises. Those raises are thought to be similar to what the city's police and firefighters just received, which is 13 percent over four years.

It is illegal for teachers to go on strike. They would face severe penalties if they did. However, the union authorized its leadership to take any and all action to get a new deal.
