Yonkers students, officials rally for funding to rebuild schools
Some students in Yonkers rallied with Mayor Mike Spano Wednesday, asking the state to help rebuild their schools.
Students are posting "#Fund2Rebuild" on social media to try and attract the attention of lawmakers in Albany about funding their schools.
Spano, as well as the superintendent and principal of Yonkers Middle High School, joined the students in their rally.
Funding legislation was proposed last year, but that money is still not on its way. Students say the money is desperately needed because they are working and learning in a school that is crumbling around them.
"It's too cold in some classrooms, too hot in others," says student Clemente Vushaj. "There's no windows in some classes and we have classes in the basement and those are just not taken care of."
