State lawmakers in Albany are expected to begin passing parts of the budget Wednesday and Yonkers may be getting $100 million in the new budget year.
Yonkers school districts currently have a $100 million deficit. While lawmakers have apparently allocated that amount to the city, only half of that amount will go directly for the school system. Some of the state money is meant to fund development projects in Yonkers. It will be up to Mayor Phil Amicone to decide whether to give what is left to local schools.
Even if the budget is approved by Friday?s deadline, Governor George Pakati (R-NY) must then sign off on the spending plan.
