Yonkers lawmakers joined the tenants of a low-income housing complex to hold a rally Saturday in attempt to save their homes.
The residents of the building at 28 LaMartine Terrace could soon lose their Section 8 benefits because the lease provided for the building by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is going to expire in May.
?We are low-income people and want to keep our place,? says Andrew Williams. ?And I'm fighting for it right now today to say [that] I don't want to live in a cardboard box.?
Lawmakers hope they can reach an agreement with the federal agency before the expiration of the lease.
