Members of Westchester Disabled on the Move and elected officials gathered in Yonkers Wednesday to celebrate the 27th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The celebration took place at the Will Library in Yonkers. Carol Conklin, who is legally blind, attended the event because she says without the legislation she would not have been able to accomplish all that she has.
"It's because of the ADA that I am standing here, being able to be out in the community, to work, to be independent," says Conklin.
Members of Westchester Disabled on the Move say they are concerned about Obamacare being repealed. They say a change to Obamacare could pull funding from the ADA.
The members say the ADA is more important now than ever and they will continue to fight for their civil rights.
