The sound of African drums inside the Yonkers Riverfront Library marked the second day of Kwanzaa.
Children participated in arts and crafts while learning the seven principles of life?s work. Saturday marked Kujichagulia, meaning self-determination.
?We have an incredible amount of responsibility not only to ourselves but to each other and you can create that determination,? state Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D) said. ?You can be a positive force and go out and do it."
Many at the library said the messages of Kwanzaa will last all year round. Kwanzaa ends on Jan. 1.
