The owners of the Yonkers Raceway are considering moving their racetrack as part of a new plan to expand the Empire City Casino.
The harness track would potentially move to Belmont Park on Long Island. The owners say that would allow for more money and space to expand the casino. But they also say relocating the track is not a priority before the expansion.
"Our focus is on identifying a strategic partner to help develop the nearly 100-acre property to make the grand vision for this entertainment destination a reality," a casino spokesperson tells News 12. "While the relocation of the racing operations has been mentioned, it is not our focus."
Neighbor Chasity Candelaria says she doesn't pay much mind to the track anyway, aside from seeing horses coming and going.
"My father goes to the casino sometimes to hang out, but I wouldn't expand the casino itself," Candelaria says. "I would actually expand the parking lot a little bit, because it's always congested."
