Yonkers police tout decrease in crime rate
The Yonkers Police Department kicked off National Police Week Monday by touting a significant decrease in crime across the city.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano says overall crime is down 31 percent in the past six years.
New FBI statistics show that Yonkers is now the second safest city in the country for its size, but not all residents agree with those numbers.  Some residents, however, have noticed a change.
"I've been in Yonkers about seven years at least," said Christopher Wilbur. "And I've seen a change overall, a positive change over the city."
City officials say they hope the positive change will continue.
The Yonkers Police Department will host a variety of community outreach activities as part of National Police Week.
