Yonkers Marathon sees low turnout this year
The second oldest marathon in the United States celebrated its 92nd race Sunday, but less than three dozen runners participated in the Yonkers event.
According to the Yonkers Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, the low turnout, only 35 runners total, had to do with a change in race dates from October last year to September this year.
The city took it upon itself to promote the event without using outside advertisers, PR or social media.
Last year, 86 people crossed the finish line.
The first race in Yonkers was held Thanksgiving Day in 1907.
