Yonkers man arrested in arrow shooting
A Westchester County worker was arrested Thursday and charged with shooting an arrow that nearly killed a woman in the Bronx.
Police say Eric Collins, 27, shot a 30-inch arrow that hit Denise Delgado-Brown last weekend as she was dropping off her two elderly friends at a nursing home in Riverdale.
Delgado-Brown says seven inches got lodged in her abdomen. Just an inch deeper and it would have pierced her heart.
According to investigators, Collins was moving out of his apartment on Bronx River Road in Yonkers to his grandparents' home in the Bronx last Sunday. They say Collins decided to take out his bow and a half-dozen arrows, and shot one into a fence. It went through the fence and ricocheted up, hitting Delgado-Brown.
The victim, who is still recovering from the injury at her Yonkers home, says she is happy to hear the suspect in the shooting was caught.
"Did I think it was directed toward me? No," she says. "Was it a stupid thing to do? Very much so."
Collins, who works as a plumber for the Westchester County Department of Parks, has a pregnant wife and a 20-month-old child. He was charged with assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. If convicted, Collins is facing seven years behind bars.
