Yonkers hospital gets $1.5M shot in the arm
St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers got a big boost in the form of a $1.5 million grant to help expand the facility and provide high-tech care to patients.Hospital President Jim Foy says they were planning a large expansion and the grant from the Kresge Foundation was more than they ever expected. Part of the expansion plan, known as Riverside 2010, includes the purchase of a cardiac catheterization lab. Doctors say the lab is the key to detecting heart disease, but often patients in Yonkers have had to go elsewhere to have it done.
Foy says the capital expansion program is part of an effort by the medical center to provide high-tech diagnostic equipment that will save lives. Besides the expansion of cardiac services, the hospital also plans to build a new suite for expectant mothers and a stroke treatment facility.
