Yonkers F.D. practices emergency ice & water training
The Yonkers Fire Department spent Monday afternoon at Tibbetts Brook Park practicing ice and water training.
Part of the training included using flotation devices to pull people out of the water.
Firefighters also trained with special suits that are required during water rescue. The suits can keep firefighters warm for up to six hours in the freezing waters.
Experts advise that residents should not attempt to rescue people themselves.
"We don't want you trying to be a good Samaritan and rescuing them because you'll just end up being the second victim in that," says Assistant Chief Kevin Ford, of the Yonkers Fire Department.
