Family and friends are mourning the loss of a Yonkers man who was killed on Warburton Avenue Monday night in a fatal crash that may have been the result of drag racing.
Jonathan Mortes De Oca, 27, died when his car hit a telephone pole north of Odell Avenue in Yonkers.
According to police, witnesses at the scene said two cars were drag racing before the accident.
A family friend Donna Nolan disputes that claim. Her teenage son was in the other vehicle on Warburton Avenue on the night of the accident, and she says Mortes De Oca was driving behind him.
Nolan adds, however, that Mortes De Oca did go over the speed limit before the crash, but it is not clear why he lost control of the vehicle.
Mortes De Oca is survived by a wife and two children. He will be buried Friday morning following a service at the Sinatra Funeral Home in Yonkers.
