Yonkers couple alleges police brutality
Two days after the Department of Justice announced its probe of the Yonkers Police Department, another incident of alleged brutality took place Friday evening.
Eric Brown and his wife, Monique Vasquez, both 27, were arrested by Yonkers police near the intersection of Post Street and Hamilton Avenue.
Two eyewitnesses, who requested anonymity, said officers approached Brown about paperwork for the pit bull he was walking. The witnesses said one officer "started getting a little rowdy." After Brown repeatedly asked what he had done wrong, the witnesses said the next thing they knew eight officers were on top of Brown, handcuffed him, and then pulled out their batons.
Witnesses said police repeated racial epithets, including the "n-word."
Brown's mother-in-law and 8-year-old daughter, Moshida, watched the incident.
"My mom was saying, 'Stop, stop. Get off him,'" Moshida Brown said. "So they just took my mom and grabbed her."
The arrests were captured on videotape, which shows officers physically lifting Brown into the patrol car.
