Yonkers Common Core results higher than statewide average
Common Core results are in statewide, and Yonkers Public Schools’ results are higher than the statewide average.
The state Education Department announced test scores are up statewide by 1.9 percentage point on the English test and 1.1 percentage point in math.
Yonkers saw a 4.2 increase in English and 3.7 percentage point increase in math.
Superintendant Dr. Edwin Quezada says the district has worked hard for years to improve scores, but he is focused on closing the achievement gap.
"Regardless of their zip code, regardless of the color of their skin, regardless of their socioeconomic status, it is our responsibility in America to ensure every young person is achieving at a high level so they can compete,” he says.
The Common Core test scores are for students in grades 3 through 8.
