Yonkers City Council green lights red-light cams
The Yonkers City Council voted Wednesday to install red-light cameras at busy intersections in order to catch speeders.
Under the proposed measure, owners of the cars that are photographed running a red light will receive a ticket, but no points will be put on the driver's license. This provision, however, has some people questioning the City Council's motives.
Others, however, believe that catching speeders in the act is an all-around good idea.
"There are a lot of people who speed and don't obey the law, and people get hurt because of it," says Tiffany Rich, of Mount Vernon.
If the cameras are approved in Albany, Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone will move forward with implementing the City Council's proposal.
