Yonkers budget cuts may force library to cut staff, hours
Yonkers officials are being forced to cut $700,000 out of the budget, which could mean a cut to staff members and Sunday hours.
Longtime library clerk Gloria Buckley says as lawmakers decide what to cut or save, she hopes they know that the library is just as important as other essential services the city provides.
"We're essential because kids have nowhere to go to do their work or school. Nowhere to go on weekends," she says.
City Council officials say no final decisions have been made about the library's budget. They will discuss it at a meeting scheduled for May 23.
