Several current and former New York Yankees paid a surprise visit Monday to a New Rochelle teenager to support his organization.

Jack Gallin is the founder of the nonprofit Stars for Cars, which honors blue- and gold-star military families with a magnetic star decal.

Several Yankees showed up at New Rochelle City Hall to show their support for the organization. Among them was former closing pitcher Mariano Rivera, who helped put stars on cars as part of the team's "Hope Week" initiative.

Current Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner was also impressed with Gallin's work on behalf of military families.

"He's a special young man," Gardner said. "We're trying to not just celebrate him, but bring awareness to this great cause."

Gallin was also selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Yankees' home game Monday.
