A chance to experience a part of American history is now on display at the Westchester County Airport in Harrison.
Vintage World War II aircraft, such as the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, are part of the 'Wings of Freedom Tour' now at the airport.
The B-17 was the primary bomber in World War II and is considered one of the most important allied aircraft during the war. Organizers say getting a look inside the plane, or even taking a ride, can serve as a reminder of the dangerous missions our troops undertook during the war.
"Typically a crew would have 25 missions to get through before they could go home again; the average number of missions that a crew would actually get through before being shot down or killed was about 15," says Charles Gould.
The B-17 on display in Harrison is one of only about eight that are flying in the world today.
The 'Wings of Freedom Tour' is at the Westchester County Airport through Sunday. It will be traveling to 110 cities.
