Wrong-way driver sentenced to 4-12 years for killing detective
A Yonkers man who drove the wrong way on the Sprain Brook Parkway and killed an NYPD detective from Hartsdale was sentenced Wednesday.
Efron Moreano, 21, was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison for the death of NYPD Detective Paul Duncan.
Officials say Moreano drove his Honda Civic northbound in the southbound lanes of the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh back in February 2015. They say Moreano got on at Jackson Avenue and traveled 2 miles before hitting Duncan, who was on his way to work in Queens.
The 46-year-old was killed instantly. Moreano suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
State police say Moreano was drunk and high on marijuana and traveling at more than 100 mph at the time of the crash.
In April, Moreano pleaded guilty to manslaughter, reckless endangerment and vehicular manslaughter.
