It was an emotional morning in Middletown where a police officer shot on duty last weekend was released from the hospital.
Officer Evan Barone, 26, was discharged from Garnet Medical Center amid cheers from fellow law enforcement, family and friends.
Barone was shot in the forearm on Saturday while responding to a domestic violence call. Officer Baronne returned fire, shooting the suspect, Desean Owens.
Middletown Mayor Joe Destefano says Barone’s actions were nothing short of heroic.  “I’m proud of him. He’s brave. He’s a warrior. He saved lives and he did everything that he sworn to do to protect and serve. So we’re happy we’re home and he’s going home to his family,” says Destefano.
Owens, who remains in the hospital, is charged with attempted murder.
