A man who worked and lived at an Armonk country club apparently died while swimming without a lifeguard on duty.
Whippoorwill Club President Bob Kirkwood says Cesar Leon-Leon, 21, and three friends were swimming at the closed pool Tuesday night when no lifeguard was on duty. Kirkwood says Leon-Leon, who wasn't a strong swimmer, dove into the pool.
The victim's friends called 911 around 9 p.m. Officers tried to resuscitate Leon-Leon with CPR and a defibrillator.
"They shouldn't have been there. They're not authorized to be there. Something went terribly wrong," said Kirkwood. He added that he's awaiting final word from authorities on the cause of death.
A medical examiner is performing an autopsy to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the death. The examiner is also expected to determine whether Leon-Leon hit his head and how long he was under water.
Leon-Leon worked at the club's snack bar. The people who were with him at the time of his death are also employed by the club.
