A woman was killed while attempting to cross the Major Deegan Expressway early Sunday morning.
Police say the woman was struck by a Honda coupe driving northbound just after midnight at the West 179th Street exit.
Upon arrival, police say the woman was lying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say that although the driver fled the scene, the 24-year-old did report the incident to nearby fire department personnel.
The investigation is ongoing. It is currently unclear what, if any, charges the driver will be facing.
