Woman leaps five stories to her death in Yonkers
A mentally ill woman jumped to her death in Yonkers Thursday, leaving behind a 2-year-old son and a grieving mother who blames a local hospital for not helping her troubled daughter.According to police, 32-year-old Francesca Perez jumped out a window from her mother?s apartment on Caryl Avenue. Angie Perez says her daughter gave no indication she was about to kill herself. Perez says her daughter was diagnosed as mentally ill and on was medication for schizophrenia. However, she says her daughter?s son gave her a reason to live.
Angie Perez says she was dressing her grandson when her daughter jumped out the window. Perez blames St. Joseph's Hospital in Yonkers for releasing her daughter after she had a breakdown. She claims they promised to supervise her, but didn't.A hospital spokeswoman says they cannot comment because of privacy laws.
This wasn?t the first time Francesca Perez tried to kill herself. On Sept. 11, 2001, Perez was rescued after she jumped off the Yonkers City Pier. Volunteer Lifesaving Corps member Frank Kendrick went in after her, then died of a heart attack.
