A woman who was sentenced to prison for killing her mother two years ago testified in court Tuesday for the second day in a row.
Anne Trovato took the stand, defending her best friend and ?soul sister? Carmela Magnetti, who is now on trial for allegedly helping to kill Trovato's mother.
In the course of a cross-examination, Trovato pleaded the Fifth Amendment every time prosecutors inquired about her mother's brutal murder.
Trovato blamed Magnetti's cousin Arthur Walsh for her mother's death. She told the jury that Walsh was the one who hit her mom with a baseball bat and stabbed her 24 times in her Ossining home on Mother's Day in 2006.
Five days after the murder, Trovato said she tried to commit suicide by swallowing 20 Valium pills and even writing a suicide note, saying she couldn't live without her mother.
But when prosecutors asked Trovato about the day of the murder, the woman refused to answer. Trovato, who never testified at her own trial, plans to appeal her sentence.
Trovato and her mother Patricia Mery were locked in a bitter feud over custody of Trovato's daughter, Arianna, at the time of the murder.
Sources say Magnetti is not expected to take the stand. Testimony will continue Wednesday.
