Witnesses sought in deadly motorcycle crash on Sprain Brook Parkway
State police are hoping to talk to anyone who witnessed a deadly accident on the Sprain Brook Parkway this weekend.
Authorities say a speeding motorcycle driven by 24-year-old Clifford Perkins, of New City, rammed into the back of a car. The crash happened around 1 mile north of Route 287 southbound on the Sprain Brook Parkway at around 12:30 p.m. The collision caused a red Mazda to spin out and strike the center guard rail. The car then came back across the lane and struck a second motorcyclist. Both motorcycles burst into flames.
The second motorcyclist, 45-year-old Scott Phillips, of New Jersey, died on impact after hitting a tree. Perkins was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Police say the accident happened during heavy traffic, so they hope to find a number of eyewitnesses, including a group of bikers who were traveling with the two motorcyclists involved in the accident.
