While Rockland County didn't bear the brunt of the winter storm, it didn't escape completely unscathed either.
Downed trees like the one on Spook Rock Road in Wesley Hills caught on fire. According to Orange & Rockland, a little more than 100 customers in the immediate area were initially without power.
One homeowner saw the whole thing as it happened.
"I work from home, and I work in the kitchen, and I always like to look out the window, and I suddenly saw all this smoke coming from a tree, and I thought, 'That's odd,"' says Dave Howells, of Wesley Hills. "And then all these flames started coming out, so I phoned up 911 and just said, 'I think the tree's on fire.'"
Temperatures are expected to continue to drop so drivers are urged to use caution heading into Saturday.
