Winter returns to Westchester for one last round
Just days after seasonably warm temperatures, winter has decided to hit Westchester County Friday for one last hurrah.
The storm started out slow but intensified as the day went on. Highway crews were out on the roads to deal with the accumulating snow. Speed restrictions were posted on the Tappan Zee Bridge. Drivers were also advised to take it slow on the roads. Many schools were closed and activities were canceled.
A fire truck that stopped to check on stranded motorists along the Saw Mill Parkway in Yonkers was struck by another vehicle on the slippery highway. Forecasters say the worst of the storm is expected in the early evening, where warmer temperatures will mix in, creating sleet and an icy situation on the roads.
