Last week, Michigan became the 10th state to allow the use of recreational pot after voters there approved a ballot measure. New York may be next.
A long line of residents waited to make their voices heard at a recent listening session in New Rochelle on the legalization of recreational marijuana.
New York legalized the medicinal use of marijuana back in 2014. Since September, a regulated marijuana workgroup created by Gov. Andrew Cuomo has held 17 listening sessions to get feedback on a possible statewide pot program.
The controversial issue is expected to come up in the now Democratic-controlled Legislature in Albany when the session resumes in January.
Supporters of recreational marijuana use say it's about time.
"Instead of arresting people for doing it and filling our jails with people who are smoking or whatever, I  think let them be,” says Christine Farahat, of Pelham.

The workgroup is expected to provide their findings to legislators next year.
A study led by the Department of Health this past summer found the positive impacts of regulated marijuana in New York outweigh the potential negative effects.
