COVID-19 rates are on the decline and vaccinations are underway in the 12-to-17 age group, and that has some parents and educators wondering: will kids need to wear face masks when they return to in-person learning in the fall?

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky says she believes guidance to wear masks in schools will be lifted by the fall.

As of now, the agency recommends students wear masks in classroom settings.

Dr. Walensky said Thursday on "Good Morning America" that vaccination rates among children could change that.

She says her agency is reviewing both COVID infection and vaccination rates.

COVID-19 vaccines are currently approved by the FDA for children as young as 12, but not younger.
