After the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Westchester Wednesday, residents hoped history wouldn?t repeat itself.

The tornado watch was issued until 6 p.m. for Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties. The Westchester County Office of Emergency Management says a possible tornado hit Chappaqua. Wicked weather tore through the county, causing accidents and forcing roads to close.

Strong winds toppled trees and power lines in Bedford, Katonah, Chappaqua and Croton. Con Edison and NYSEG reported at least 32,000 residents without power. A huge tree crashed down on a home in Bedford Hills. No one was hurt. Bedford Hills has set up an emergency shelter for residents in need. The town of New Castle declared a state of emergency due to the storm. Dozens of school districts canceled evening activities as a precaution.Wednesday?s tornado watch comes less than a year after an F-2 tornado tore a path through Westchester. Some of the damage from that storm is still visible throughout the county.
