A Westchester organization dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence is getting a huge financial boost.

"My Sister's Place" secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in a federal grant, thanks to Rep. Nita Lowey.

Lowey's support for My Sister's Place came in the form of a $400,000 federal grant.

The nonprofit organization in White Plains advocates for victims of domestic violence.

Officials say the funding will be used to support the legal fees for victims, many of whom are immigrants.

Lowey says the grant couldn't be more timely.

"We just marked the 26th anniversary of the passage of the Violence Against Women Act, at a time intimate partner violence is rising due to the COVID pandemic," she says.

Officials at My Sister's Place say more people than ever have been reaching out to the organization during the pandemic.

The grant is offered through the Department of Justice and will be distributed over two years.
