Westchester County honored its veterans Friday afternoon in commemoration of Vietnam War Veterans Day.
Of the 58,267 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, 191 of them were from Westchester County.
Local leaders along with members of the community gathered in the rotunda of White Plains City Hall to honor the fallen heroes.
“When we first came home, no one cared, but today, it’s better late than never,” says veteran Bob Ruocco.
Peter Stone, a pilot in the Navy, says out of the tragedy of war came a brotherhood and sisterhood among all those who served and one that will never be broken.
“It’s wonderful to see the bond between all these guys who were there 50 years ago. It’s amazing,” says Stone.
