Westchester travelers return home after being stuck in Atlanta airport
Many people in the Hudson Valley returned home Monday after a massive power outage left travelers stranded at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for about 11 hours.
Mary Curley says she left home in Portland, Oregon at 4 a.m. Sunday and made it to Westchester 32 hours later.  She said she was stuck on a plane in Atlanta for six hours and then had to spend the night in the dark airport because the power was out.
"It felt apocalyptic, when you go into this terminal, it was completely black you can't see 2 feet in front of you," she says.
Curley was not alone. Tens of thousands of travelers were stranded after the 11-hour blackout caused more than 1,000 flight cancellations.
Curley says despite having to sleep at the ticket counter, she's OK. She credits her fellow travelers for keeping her sane during an insane situation.
Power has since been restored in the Atlanta airport and all departing flights are back on schedule.
