This Monday marks 16 years since the 9/11 terror attacks, and thousands of volunteers in Westchester County are planning on a day of giving back.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino is leading the effort mark the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks with a day to serve and remember.
Wednesday at the at the Westchester County Center, Astorino said that one of the best way to honor the victims of 9/11 was to help the victims in Texas who suffered the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. "We are honoring the people who ran toward disaster to help people," says Astorino.
Over the next few days, thousands of volunteers are expected to donate blood, send a note to a soldier overseas, read to a veteran or help the victims of Harvey by donating items to disaster areas in Texas.
All of the supplies and donations will be boxed up on Monday and will be shipped by the Afya Foundation to Texas to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
